CNC
routing.

Precision routing for letters, panels, brackets, jigs and one-offs. Big bed, big tolerance — and we'll route to your file or draw it up for you.

Behind most of what we make is a CNC router doing the precision work — cutting the letters, engraving the detail, profiling the shapes that would take days to do accurately by hand. Our main bed is 3.7m by 2m, big enough to cut a full sign panel or a monolith face in one piece rather than joining sections together, and we've a smaller machine on hand for fine detail where a big bed is overkill. We cut acrylic, foam PVC, aluminium composite, MDF, plywood, hardwoods, brass and aluminium sheet — most flat materials a router bit can handle cleanly.

This isn't only a signage service. We do 2D and 2.5D profiling for jigs, brackets, bespoke fixtures and one-off pieces for other trades and businesses across Kendal and the wider South Lakes, not just sign faces. Send us a vector file and we'll cut to it exactly; send us a rough idea or a logo and we'll draw up a cuttable file as part of the quote. Either way, you get a piece cut to the tolerance the material and design deserve, not "close enough."

Sun Signs runs precision CNC routing from our workshop in Kendal, serving Windermere, Ambleside, Penrith, Barrow and the whole of Cumbria. Call 01539 724433 or email signs@sunsigns.co.uk for a quote.

Questions

What people ask us.

Can you cut from my own file, or do I need to supply artwork?

Either. Send us a vector file — DXF, AI, or even a clean PDF — and we'll cut straight from it. If you've just got an idea, a sketch or a logo as a JPEG, we'll draw it up as a cuttable file for you as part of the job. Either way we'll confirm exact dimensions and material before anything runs on the machine.

What's the biggest single piece you can cut?

Our main bed is 3.7m by 2m, which covers full-size sign panels, monolith faces and most one-piece jobs in a single pass. We've also got a smaller machine for fine detail work — intricate lettering, small logos, engraving — where precision matters more than size.

What materials can you route?

Acrylic, foam PVC, aluminium composite (Dibond), MDF, plywood, hardwoods, brass and aluminium sheet — pretty much anything flat that a router bit can cut cleanly. We do 2D profiling and 2.5D work (engraving, chamfered edges, stepped depths) and we'll tell you honestly if a material isn't suited to what you're trying to achieve.
